Newton Family Bike Rides
A parent-led community biking group
Halloween Ride
If you like the idea of kids biking in costumes, this is the event for you! This event took place in JP for 8 years starting in 2014 and it moved to Newton in 2021. It's a low-stress parent-led large group ride. Typically we get around 100ish people. Everyone dresses in costume and we take over the road critical mass style and do a 1.5ish mile ride that starts at the Newton Center playground loops Crystal lake and the Highlands. Parents or guardians must stay with their kids and everyone bikes at their own risk. It ends with a costume contest and snacks (provided by parents) at the playground.
Saturday Oct, 29 11am
Rain Date: Sunday, Oct 30 TBD (most likely 2pm)
Spring Roll
Jamaica Plain Bikes puts together a Spring Roll for kids/families event each spring and we thought it'd be fun to bring the ride to Newton. When the weather gets nice (typically around Mother's Day), we organize a family-friendly bike ride. 2022 was the first year of the ride and we did a 1.5ish mile loop that started and ended at the Newton Centre Playground.
Date: Sunday, May 7 4:30pm
ICE Cream Ride
This is an idea that came from a family biking group in Somerville. A friend with a similar passion for large group kid bike rides organized an ice cream ride in early August and it sounded fun so we wanted to do it in Newton as well. Still working on the vision, but it will involve a bike ride in Newton to each delicious ice cream spot. Open to suggestions on routes and best ice cream spots.
Date: Stay tuned: Early August 2023
